Another week of fantastic climbing conditions in the Wye Valley - overlooking Tintern Abbey from Shorncliff and listening to the cool sounds of rushing water above Symonds Yat rapids. The relaxed atmosphere allowed us to enjoy some excellent climbing aswell as study setting up belays, abseils, rope systems and placing protection etc. Thanks to Mel, Dave, Graham and Dave for an entertaining and enjoyable few days climbing in a beautiful setting.
This blog follows my climbing trips; based in the Forest of Dean , climbing in the nearby Wye Valley, North Wales, Scotland, Picos de Europa Spain and European Alps.

Introduction to climbing course
More perfect climbing weather this week in the Wye Valley - giving a good impression of continental limestone climbing - warm and dry, a great way to introduce Lauren, Caroline, Steve and Ruth to climbing in this area . Noted some loose rock around especially on top-outs, not that unusual for the Wye Valley at this time of year, but best not get complacent about it; at least one visiting team had a bit of a surprise judging by the shouts and sounds of crashing rocks.
Thanks again to 'the team' for an enjoyable few days climbing - you can hardly call it working !

Outdoor climbing course
Some excellent climbing conditions this week, with continuous sunshine warming and drying out the limestone, with a couple of 'climbing outdoors' courses introducing the rewards of climbing on natural rock in a beautiful landscape, under clear blue skies - the enjoyment of climbing almost distracted from the instruction ! - "I'm not sure if I want to climb indoors again after this"- was one quote which summed up the week ! Thanks to James, Jon (Happy Birthday !), Sarah and Stuart for a relaxed few days climbing.

Spring rock climbing
Fantastic spring weather in the Wye Valley this week with warm sunshine lighting up the silver and gold limestone - some of the paths are still a bit muddy, as are the top of the climbs, and some of the winter seepage lines haven't dried out yet, but where the rock has been in sunshine it is crisp to the touch and a pleasure to climb on - with several courses coming up I'm happy that clients will have a good time - difficult not to in these conditions !!

Rock climbing in the Wye Valley
Rock climbing courses in the Wye Valley are just about getting under way, with Easter usually signifying the start of the season - this week the weather been a bit of a challenge and has required a flexible approach to gaining the best from the conditions - there has been dry, climbale rock available but underfoot the conditions have not been good. Some sunshine has been a reminder of how good the climbing can be though, and I'm looking forward to some warm sunny days this season. Thanks to Rob, Karen, Richard, Paul and Ross for making the most of the conditions.
